Well, it has finally happened...the winds of change have come, the stars have aligned, etc., etc. The Christian Right may finally have what it has been working towards for years, a stacked Supreme Court of right wing ideologues.
With the death this weekend of Chief Justice Rehnquist, and the nomination of Roberts to the Chief Justice position, and O'Connor's seat still up for grabs, Bush has the ability to set the course for a rollback on civil rights, women's rights, individual rights, privacy rights, gay rights, etc. for generations.
As most people's minds are going out to the victims of hurricane Katrina (as they should be) my crazy mind is wondering if the sky is in fact falling. Pro-choice advocates have been saying for years that conservatives are serious when they talk about wanting to overturn Roe. But will they actually do it? Or will they just make abortion so difficult to access that it will be an empty right for those of us who can't afford to cut through all the red tape? We'll find out soon enough as the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear two abortion-related cases this fall.
I wish I had more faith in Democrats to protect us from judges that will radically change America for the worse, but I don't.
I have a major case of pessimism today.

My favorite GOP move was that Roberts was one of Renquist's pall bearers. How about that for some quality press footage? Ass Monkeys.
