Something funny happened in the past two weeks. McGilvray's judicial bypass for minors without parents or guardians went down in flames in committee, but no one seemed to notice.
The first half of the session was filled with news about this Sales/Lange priority bill, but the fabulous MT media hasn't found the need to report on it.
At the hearing on this bill, it was pointed out that the sponsor didn't even know what his bill would do, nor did he have a grasp of the court decision that already struck down a parental notification law in Montana. When questioned about the process that a minor would have to go through to navigate the court system in Montana to get her court-approved abortion, the sponsor simply said, "I don't know. I haven't thought about it."
Of course he hasn't thought about it. That would mean he actually cared about something other than fetuses. While he was bringing a bill entirely about judicial bypass procedures, McGilvray couldn't be bothered to put himself in a young pregnant woman's shoes for one second to think about how she might have to deal with the consequences of his law. Blinded by his unending love for the feti, McG couldn't care less about Montana's young women.
Thanks media for failing to report on this bill that wasted plenty of ink when it was flying through the House. I guess once rationality takes over, and the sponsor is exposed for the jerk he is, it's not news anymore.
