International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day! Also Happy Blog Against Sexism Day!

I just got back from Montana Women Vote and the Montana Democratic Women's Caucus' celebration and rally for Montana Women. It was good, we all wore purple and listened to speakers talk about the important bills for women (most of them shat upon by the assjacket Montana republican legislators). There are still some great ones going through the session. The biggest winners are women who get abused. Most of the bills against sexual and domsetic violence are alive and kicking with superb support. The bigest losers are poor women, young women, kids, homosexuals and cervixes. Ahhh, Montana. Which brings me to my Blog Against Sexism. Montana is a sexist state. Don't misconstrue this to think that I am saying that every blessed Montanan is sexist.

Let me point to the fact that we elect a whole lot of men. We did once have a woman governor and if that bag of shit didn't set Montana Women back centuries, I don't have myself a uterus. It makes you wonder if that was the plan all along. Anyway, not only do we elect men, but a lot of these men make it their business to take away women's rights. Don't let us have birth control, don't prevent all of us from dieing of cervical cancer, but jebus christ, don't hit us. Afterall we are someone's mother, sister, or daughter. Me cyincal? Yes.

Let me not be all dark storm clouds and doom, there are some amazing women in this state. For the first time in Montana's history, we have a Democratic Women's Caucus in the legislature. We have women leadership in both the Senate and the House. Can I get a you go girls?

For a state that is the home of Janet Rankin, the first woman ever to be elected to Congress, we still have a long way to go.

Start small. Say hello to other women. Be nice to your female co-workers. Let them know that you are there for them. Let's bring eachother up. Let's empower eachother. Let's say "great job" to women. Let's promote them and help them get promoted. Lets work to get more women elected. Let's tell young girls that they are smart, beautiful, funny and cool, let's tell them the truth. Let me tell you, as a woman who works with a lot of men, I need more women co-workers, I need more female bosses, I need to bask in the support that only another woman can provide.

Happy Women's Day.
