Breeder

I have been putting a lot of thought into having kids lately. Honestly, I just don't know.

I mean, I think I want kids someday. I just don't want to be 40 years old and regret that I didn't. I know that 30 is a long ways from 40, but I figured that I would know FOR SURE WITHOUT A DOUBT that I would want kids by now and the more time that goes by, the less I feel it. I wanted kids more at 18 than I do now.

My other big hangup is that I know that I NEED to have kids. If socially and environmentally responsible people don't have kids to raise them to care about their world, then our future will be governed by asshole NASCAR kids telling us what we need to believe in. Cuz' those people are making babies like bunnies.

Yet, what kind of world are we going to be giving our kids to deal with?

Ug.

Three more years. Then I will know. That is what I keep telling myself.

On the day of my bridal shower, I bet one of my bridesmaids that I wouldn't have a baby within X number of years after I was married. I think it was one year, but I am not sure. If she wins, we go to Mexico. If I win the bet, we go to Mexico. So Zoolaw, was it one year or three? When are we going to Mexico?

I'm not sure we'll ever have that kind of clarity ... well, unless you're cdoc who knew she wanted kids at like 11 or something crazy like that. I envy that kind of clarity. But I'm not sure that we'll ever have it. Sometimes I think that means that I should NOT have kids because as a smart and educated person who values the environment and doesn't yet know if she wants children, maybe it's my responsibility to refrain from procreating and putting more people, consumers and pressure on our Mother Earth. But on the other hand, maybe it just means that I will analyze and try to get the "answer" to all of life's questions (e.g. Am I meant to have children?) whether there is a real answer or not.

If you figure it out, let me know. I'll probably still have kids though.

Okay - the most exciting part of thinking about having kids is thinking of their potential names.

Here is my short "girls" list.

Maggie
Marcella
and since my conversation with Jenkins last night.
Charlotte

Charlotte is such a prude on Sex In the City so I vote NO on that name... I like Marcella A LOT. I'm not sharing my fave cuz Jenkins is already racing me to babies so she can use it ;-)

Charlotte is my favorite character on SATC. Well, she is the one I identify with the most.

Plus - I can't imagine it being that bad to have a prude daughter. Just as long as it isn't an Alex P. Keaton.
