NO FRIGGEN WAY!

Oh yes, in a shocking move, proving that not every government agency is controlled by Satan (GWB), the FDA OK's Emergency Birth Control for over the counter sale! But only if you are over the age of 18. Good god, I seriously didn't think this would happen during this administration.

The 18 and older thing bothers me, a little, but if I know anything, if a kid can get a pack of smokes, the sure the hell can find someone to buy them some Plan B.

Hooorrrraaaayyyy.

Finally, some great news in the morning! This is a huge step in what lately has seemed like an anti-choice era. As I was reading about this in an article I found this quote from an opponent:

"But opponent Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, said Plan B's wider availability could give women a false sense of security, since it isn't as effective as regular birth control. Wright also worries that adult men who have sex with minor girls could force the pills upon them.

"Statutory rape is a very serious problem. This decision is going to allow statutory rapists to rely on this drug to cover up their abuse," Wright said.

Ok, so it is bad enough that statutary rape occurs, but this woman wants the 10-year olds to get knocked up as well? I'm not finding the logic here, and highly doubt that allowing the sales of this drug will "promote" and encourage sex offenders to take more victims. That is a pretty sorry rebuttal from the anti-abortion movement.

I might start an online list of over-18 year olds willing to purchase Plan B for the underlings. My name is first on the list ... I wonder if they've thought of criminalizing that yet. IT's next, I'm sure of it.

Not only have I been fortunate to have easy access to it, but I did give it to a friend once. It is great news, and bravo to you BDOC for those great thoughts!

So one final thought.

I was listening to NPR yesterday and they had a commentator on discussing Plan B. The guy said that all of the hearings on Plan B involved right wing groups testifying about how it is abortion, how it is going to increase promiscuity and disease. . .blah, blah, blah. He said that there was very little evidence suggesting that Plan B had detrimental medical affects on girls under the age of 18. The FDA's reasoning on the age 18 limit was that there was a lack of evidence on how Plan B impacts girls under that age. The commentator then added that there was very little evidence presented to the contrary either.

Either way, I am GLAD that the FDA approved Plan B for over the counter use. Even though it was a purely political compromise to get it through.

What strikes me as AMAZING is that they are selling a birth control for WOMEN over the counter. Can you imagine if they sold the pill over the counter. I believe that this is a huge president, and a good one.
