Fire!

This summer had a very promising start. It rained. RAINED so much I am pretty sure I saw one of my neighbors starting work on an Arc - it could have been a drift boat, who knows.

People were whining about the rain, but not me. No. I know better. I lived in a tent during the summer of 2000 and I will never complain about rain again. Summer 2000, Montana Conservation Corps, summer of meth (not me, just the f____ heads I worked with), chainsaws and fire, or I like to think of it as the summer where I met one of my favorite friends, Jess. The summer started out much like this one. Rain, cold, people whining about the weather. The summer ended with apocalyptic fires, forests were closed, Glacier was closed and those a__face RV-ers had to plug up Yellowstone for "recreation".

We are on the verge of having another one of those summers. No, that is totally inaccurate, we are having one of those summers, Fire Summers, more here. The fires started in the grasslands of Eastern Montana and they keep moving west. FWP is closing many rivers to angling to protect the fish, the heat is already getting to many of them. Oh and did I mention that it is only July? Christ.

On the other bad news front. The Senate passed the "sending yo grandma to jail" bill. The bill and a similar one passed in the house is designed to make it a crime to help a pregnant girl cross state lines to get an abortion in an effort to evade parental notification and consent laws in her home state. Here is what Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL has to say.

But hey, you know me, all is not smoky haze and right wing bad news, I have something positive to say. Um. I know it is here somewhere. Oh yeah! I get to go rafting this weekend! Hurray!

The photos above were taken last August on the Main Salmon. Look closely, they are small fires that started while we floated by.

I smelled fired right here in good ol' Helena this morning when I got up to run. Not a good sign. Summer 2000 was TERRIBLE.

Everyone should go see An Inconvenient Truth to see why it's so GD warm AND EVEN BETTER what we all can do about it.

Here is our SHITFACEMOTHERFUCKINGASSWIPE Senator criticizing the fire fighters.

http://www.helenair.com/articles/2006/07/27/montana_top/a01072706_02.txt

"Burns approached the firefighters and told them they had “done a poor job” and “should have listened to the ranchers,” according to a report prepared by Paula Rosenthal, a state Department of Natural Resources and Conservation employee who was sent to the airport to speak with the senator."

Next time, I think that those fire fighters should go and have Burns tell those ranchers how to ranch. Jesus. I hope and PRAY Tester KILLS Burns in November. . .
