It all started on NPR this morning - as it always does. I was listening to some nice violin music when something inside my head clicked - this was VERY familiar. It was Sweet Child of Mine by GNR. Then at lunch I heard the string version of Paradise City. BY GOD, this is NOT a conicidence. How was I to know that at that very moment, my musical world was about to change in such a very big way. Thanks to JE's detective work we opened the door to The String Quartet's Tribute to Guns-N-Roses. No, I am not shitting you. Seriously.
There are others, AC/DC (Back in Baroque), Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Slayer, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, . . . If they weren't $16 bucks a pop, you would all be getting your own copy for Festivus.
I highly encourage you to use Amazon.com to look these gems up. Not only can you listen to samples, but you can read reviews - like this one.

"I was browsing the music section of a store in October and under the Bon Jovi listing, I happened upon this tribute album. I had never heard of this before, and being the rabid fan that I am, as well as having an appreciation for classical music, I decided to pick it up. I wasn't really sure what to expect from it, as Jon Bon Jovi's voice can not be substituted by anything.
With that being said, I was blown away by this album. While it is true that some songs (Bed of Roses, Always, I'll Be There for You) would naturally translate into the smooth flowing music created by a string quartet, the tracks originally sounding harder (It's My Life, Everyday, Lay Your Hands On Me) take on a flavor all their own.
If you have never listened to Bon Jovi before (shame on you two or three people), I advise you to listen to the original songs, then see how well they have translated into this form. For the rest of us, who already know how many faces have been seen and all of us who have been rocked, get this disc while it lasts."

I just have to say Thank You for including the Bon Jovi sample for your blog. I will continue to believe that when he says, "Is there a Dockter in the house?" before he begins Bad Medicine, that he's talking to me....
Love. Him. Still.
