‘A la carte’ cable picks? You betI can guarantee you that if there was an a la carte cable system, PAX would be gone, as well as every home shopping network channel, Lifetime - axed, Disney - whammo, Fox News - see ya!, Country Music TV - gone, Inspiration Channel - flushed, I could go on and on. It wouldn't be more about what we would cut, but what we would keep. Glass is half full attitude on a Monday morning, impressive. Let's just put it this way, it wouldn't be the "family" package.

Last week’s Question of the Week asked whether readers would prefer an “a la carte” cable TV system that would let them order only those channels that they want to watch. Well, duh.
Among 610 responses to this unscientific survey, 579 wanted just that. A mere 31 were against a la carte cable, no doubt responding to cable industry warnings that such a system would cost more and drive many marginal cable channels out of business. The issue returned to the news this fall after several years of dormancy when Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin said he thought a la carte probably would save consumers money and help them avoid violent and sexually explicit shows. The FCC can’t require the change, and Congress might not be willing to pass a law forcing it, but the cable industry has been discussing adding a “family” package to its offerings.

I've often said this is one place where the Christian Right and I can make friends. As much as they want to get rid of channels like MTV and HBO or whatever on their tvs, I'd like the opportunity to get rid of the same stations Auto can't stand. I'd love to be able to buy a choice few stations on the cheap. I don't want 400 channels in which I only watch about 10 of them. Let me pay a fraction of the cost, and only get the channels I want.
Daily Show, here I come!
