To give credo to the Red Basement fans who claim that we are just ramble on about feminism- here you go, two feminist blogs in a row.
The pro-lifers are boycotting American Girl dolls this Christmas - sigh. They claim that by selling Girls Inc.'s "I Can" bracelets, American Girl is promoting abortion and gay and lesbian activism. The message behind these bracelets says to girls "I can be myself, follow my dreams, and always do my best. I can reach for the stars, lend a hand to others, and be a good friend. I can make a difference! I promise to try. By wearing the American Girl "I CAN" band and signing the "I CAN" promise, girls are reminded to believe in themselves and each other." Quite blatant pro-abortion if you ask me. In fact, I did a little research myself on Girls Inc. and the only information I could find about their radical activism was references to a bunch of books if you are questioning your sexuality. In fact, a google search on Girls Inc. and pro-choice leads you directly to the CNN (Christian News Network) and the pro-life website.
Okay, perhaps by telling girls that they are "strong, smart and bold" I guess that is sponsoring free thinking and that could lead to a pro-choice or even - gasp - a pro-gay attitude, but seriously, people. Maybe I missed something on the website, I mean there is a TON of information on there about violence, rape, divorce, education, substance abuse, economic literacy. . .
Or maybe the pro-lifers are full of shit? Let them stand out in the cold in front of American Girl stores. Let the people see who you are. Here is a sign for you to hold. "We hate Girls Inc. They want our daughters to think for themselves."
Seriously, let's start a rumor to see if we can get Wallyworld boycotted by the pro-lifers next christmas. WAL-MART stands for We're All Lesbians-Mart. Turn them against a truly worthy cause.

I've often thought that if I left my current profession, I'd want to work for an organization like Girls Inc. How cool is an organization that encourages girls to be "stong, smart, and bold"?
Those people are off their rockers.
