The White Album of our Generation

So I was out with friends the other night, and as they got into my car, the familiar sounds of the Weezer "Blue Album" came on the stereo. I have owned several copies of this CD, losing a couple to theives, and some to the lack of care I take of my CDs. This one is finally getting too scratched to listen to all the songs, and I need to go buy another one again.

I got to thinking, how many of us know all the words to every song on that CD? How many of us continually put that album on and love every minute of it?

My friend M. said, "This album is like the White Album of our generation."

What do you guys think? Other ideas on the "white album of our generation"?

I put hours of agonizing thought into this. My generation's White Album - Appetite for Destruction Guns and Roses. Dude, I am from Great Falls, wha-chu want from me, yo?

Seriously, I did think about this and I can't speak for the rest of my generation, but MY White Album is The White Album. Thanks to my hippie parents, I grew up on the Beatles. Love you ma and pa.

I know it's easy to just agree with previous commentary ... but I did think about this. And my generation is older than both your generations, and therefore, not nearly as departed from The Beatles generation. I have to agree that The White Album is definitely The White Album of my time too. And then there's some good ol' reliables from college - 10,000 Maniacs, Indigo Girls (all of them), Tori Amos and other hippie chics who had the ranting, rebellious, coming-of-age me at heart....

Ahhh, the memories.

It's hard to say - the White Album was such a defining album, it opened up so much that there are so many genres (punk, hip-hop, grunge, angry chic, butt rock) that each have defining artists and albums. I could say for me personally, albums that have changed my life, but amongst our own generation, well I think it would be different for so many. For me? I think I'd have to say Ani D, Beastie's, Dixie Chics - there's 3 that have defined me. (am looking for angry pirate theme music)

AJ - "What's another word for pirate's treasure? Why, I think its bootie, b-b-bootie, bootie, that's what it is."

B-Boys - hell ya.

Kallilaw - you are as right as you are smoochable. Smells Like Teen Spirit changed the way I listen to Music. I missed the U2 craze, but appreciate the impact the Irish 4 had on society and IllCom F-ing rocks the most.

I don't think that I have ever listened to the blue album. So out of touch, am I.
