Ok, I may be exaggerating a little, but last night, skimming through a popular women's magazine I came across a most unusual advertisement.
I'm sure we're all familiar with perfume ads that smell up magazines, sure to give you a headache in enclosed spaces. Last night I came across an ad for a new scented tampon by Tampax that was just like a perfume ad. So we're supposed to rub a tampon scent on ourselves to test it out...is that the idea?
I can imagine the conversation.
Unsuspecting friend: Hey, you smell really nice, is that a new perfume?
Tampon Scent Tester: No, its the latest tampon scent.
I don't know who the marketing genius is behind this one...maybe I'm wrong. Maybe everyone has been dying for this kind of information. Thoughts?

Mostly - who wants their tampons to smell anyway? I would prefer that there's no nose but my nose to get close enough to smell those things when I'm using them anyway. Plus, isn't this quite the fodder for problems - someone say Toxic Shock Syndrome? Maybe this is TMI (too much information) but why is it that women can't be proud of the natural smell of their bodies - we're always trying to mask it with disgusting smells that make others, as allkh so aptly put it, are sure to give headaches anyway. Now we have to deal with bleeding, joys of using a tampon anyway like TSS, and giving others' headaches from the smell of our "feminine products." WHAT NEXT - I would bet it won't be perfumed jock straps.....
I accidentally bought them. They aren't so bad - just weird. And - brace yourself for some TMI, the only time I could smell them was when they were on their way in, no smell during or after.
BTW - Playtex has had scented ones for at least 5-6 years.
I guess my weirdness factor was more around the advertisement than the actual scented tampons themselves. I know they've existed for quite some time, but I agree with bdoc--we shouldn't have to feel like we need perfumed tubes in our cootchies.
I am just curious about the whole idea of rubbing the scent on like perfume? strange.
