Shock me, shock me, shock me

So in an exciting turn of events (note sarcasm), the Bush Administration is pushing for the Supreme Court to take on the case relating to the ban on late-term procedures, lovingly referred to as the "partial birth abortion" law that passed Congress. While they already weighed in on this kind of law in 2000, in the case Stenberg v. Carhart, the court did not decide in favor of anti-choice zealots.

With the makeup of the court changing from a 5-4 swing in the pro-choice side to a possible swing to the right, this is the perfect time for Bushie to push his anti-choice agenda. In Stenberg v. Carhart, the Supreme Court reaffirmed that abortion laws must contain a health exemption to pass constitutional muster.

Of course, our buddies on the right know better than physicians, stating that this kind of procedure is never necessary to preserve the health of the mother. I'm sure most of them have had a lot of experience in the science of delivering babies and saving lives.

From today's news:

Clement noted the 2000 decision, Stenberg v. Carhart, in the government's appeal, but he said that Congress determined that late-term abortions are not needed to preserve a woman's health.

The case comes to the Supreme Court from Nebraska, where the federal law was challenged on behalf of physicians. Doctors who perform the procedure contend it is the safest method of abortion when the mother's health is threatened by heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer.

Thank god that Bush and co. know more about the human body than doctors. I feel so safe. Screw all the democrats that don't vote right on Roberts and whatever whacko Bush nominates for Sandra Day O'Connor's seat.
