The FDA has issued approval to Mentor Corporation, a manufacturer of silicone gel-filled breast implants, outlining specific conditions which Mentor must satisfy in order to receive FDA approval to widely market what I'd like to lovingly refer to as crazy death boobs — even though most experts acknowledge that the agency has no way to enforce the conditions.
Women came before the FDA to testify about their personal suffering from silicone-gel leakage and migration to other organs, painful capsular contraction and disfigurement, and increased risk of death from suicide, brain cancer and lung cancer — all which have been documented by clinical research and recognized by FDA, but apparantly, big boobs are more important than women's health.
Thanks to NOW for the info.
I have a couple questions:
1) Why would women want silicone implants (crazy death boobs) after hearing all the risks associated with them?
2) Why has the FDA refused to approve EC for over-the-counter status until Senators Hillary Clinton and Patty Murray forced them to set a real deadline of Sept. 1 (despite all the scientific evidence stating that it is a perfect candidate for such status), but has rushed to make sure all us women have access to something really important like silicone breast implants? I can see where their priorities lie.
Obviously pregnancy prevention is not as important as our ever-constant search for the perfect rack.

Hi Allyson and Auto. Enjoy your blog. I'm the 85th to visit. Where can I get my hands on some of those bollo ties? They are court appropriate, right?

I have plans to be one of those big titty baby making machines. You can take my ability to choose, you can take my ability to teach my children that Buddah is the one true spiritual right, but you can't take my big fakeies! GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!
Long time reader, first time writer...
If you do research on the death boobs, you will find that there is no connection with an increase in disease etc and silicone. There is however a higher occurence of women with previous low self-esteem issues, abuse issues, body dismorphic issues, etc that choose to have breast augmentation and have a higher chance of perceiving illness or have somatic disorders.
It has been extensively documented that the removal of silicone boobs by the EPA was due to the press frenzy of the early '90s and not because of scientific findings.
It is also interesting to know that our bodies come in contact ALL THE TIME with silicone. It is everywhere in medicine and all other industrial products.
I am done. I just had to write this because I have been researching this for the last nine months.
You kids are the best. Keep up the fight.
And Kalilaw doesn't have fake boobies. . . they are nice though. I know, I got paid a dollar to touch them once. I would say it was MOSTLY worth it.
