Mini Doughnuts, Mullets, and Carrot Pants...Must be Fair Time!

Did you know you can't beat your kid at Wal-Mart, but you can put 'em on a 150 sheep and turn 'em loose?

That's what I learned this weekend at my rodeo adventure at the county fair. It has been several years since I enjoyed a rodeo. Glad to see that nothing has changed. But being at the rodeo did make me think about a few things that were more important than big hair and tapered leg pants.

How is it that the mere mention of 'Merica by some dumbass over the loudspeaker can make my skin crawl? Now, I like this country just as much as the next person, but not in a wrap myself in the flag, Toby Keith kind of way. Does that alienate me from my beloved home town of Westby, MT and all the lovely folks singing "save a horse ride a cowboy?"

I don't have a yellow ribbon on my car either, but I have several friends that are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, and I worry about them and their safety, and what they will be like when they come home. I remember what it felt like during the Gulf War, when my aunt Valerie was serving in the military and had to leave her 2 daughters and her husband and we worried that she might not make it home.

Has this President made me feel like there is something wrong with wanting to show some pride in my country? Am I reinforcing some kind of elitist stereotype of liberals by making sarcastic comments about yellow ribbon magnets and creating a compilation cd entitled "Boot in Your Ass, America's Gonna Get Ya, Songs to Make War to? (Which would have made me a millionaire by the way.)

I went to the demolition derby at said fair on Sunday - the car that won the "beauty contest" was painted in camo and the american flag. Needless to say all the other cars smashed the crap out of him.

jenkins - justice comes in some very bizarre forms at times. Such as getting the crap smashed out of yourself for being beautiful. Weird world we live in - wouldn't you say?
