Helenians overwhelmingly (77%) want to choose whether you can walk or drive in our downtown. We kept the mayor, Jim Smith who won't have the choice to ignore the people anymore. I think that the only reason that Jim Smith won a second term is because the Helena newspaper (aka conservative brainwashing rag) printed his opponent's age every time they wrote about him. He is 25. I have no idea how old Mr. Smith is, but his opponent is 25. I voted for Zach, despite his age, because I liked what he had to say. Even though Zach didn't win, he did collect 34% of the vote. I had no hopes or dreams that Zach would win, but I hoped that he would collect enough of the votes to send Mr. Smith a big wake-up call, "Listen to the people, all of the people."
The developer was ousted from the city commission! I don't know how you feel about developers, but I feel that one sitting on the city commission is sort of like the fox watching the hen house, but I lived in Bozeman for years when every elected official of city and county was a builder or developer of some sort - bad news.
Shout out to S.H. who spent a lot of time and energy to save the Walking Mall - you go girl, now work on free parking downtown - save us!
