So I was cautiously excited about the new program on ABC, Commander in Chief, with Gina Davis. I'm curious to see how Hollywood portrays the fictional first female president. While I admit that I did not get to see the premiere, I went on their website to check out what happened on the first episode and to see if they would have an encore presentation of the premiere.
A couple of things that struck me...
1. Davis's character is an "Independent." Does anyone know what party the President was from? Is this some kind of cop out? The writers didn't want to give the 1st female president to one party or the other?
That's a question I often wonder....if we ever do elect a female president, will she be a conservative or a liberal?
2. The sitting president had to die and by default, a woman became president. Would it have been more interesting to watch a woman campaign and win the presidency than have her get the post by the death of the "real" president? Maybe it makes for better drama, but I'm not buying it. Now, throughout the whole show, her critics will get to blast her not only for being a woman, and not belonging to one of the major parties, but for never being elected. I guess they really want the deck stacked against her.
I need to watch this show and get the facts I realize, I do hate people who critique things they haven't even seen.
