A Woman's Place is in the House

And in the Senate.

Yet another reason why we need more women in office. Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) came out yesterday with some tough comments on the confirmation of John Roberts to the Supreme Court.

A USA Today article reports:

As the only woman on the 17-member committee, Feinstein said she has a "special role and a special obligation" in grilling Roberts — particularly on his views about the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

"I happen to feel that it would be very difficult for me to vote yes on a nominee I thought would overturn Roe vs. Wade," she said.

Just think what it might be like if Feinstein was not the only woman on the committee….or if there was gender parity in the Senate and House. I think that’s one thing that all of us as feminists need to realize. Very often, our issues don’t find a voice unless we have a female legislator or elected official to bring that voice to the table. We do ourselves a disservice by not running for office or by not seeking out other women that should run as well.

We need to be there to fight for our rights, or no one else will.
